Day Before Payday Shephards Pie step by step

  1. Brown hamburger meat and season to taste. I use salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder & worshestire..
  2. While meat is cooking, prepare your mashed potatoes according to instructions. When done add butter and sour cream (it makes it taste better) and mix well..
  3. When meat is done cooking, drain and pour in a large bowl. Add ketchup and veggies. Stir together very well..
  4. Pour meat mixture into a 9x13 baking dish, then top with mashed potatoes..
  5. Bake COVERED on 350 for 30 minutes. Take out of the oven, add the cheese on top of the mashed potatoes and bake UNCOVERED for about 10 minutes, or until cheese has melted..
  6. Serve warm with a salad on the side 👌.

I know a goal for me has always been to make up some meals for the week in advance so that I can pull them out of the fridge or freezer when I'm in a rush or just don't have the time or energy to put something together that day. Although by the time a day rolls around when I need that made-ahead meal, there's not usually one there. Place in a medium saucepan and cover with cold water. Set over high heat, cover and bring to a boil. Unlike other shepherd's pie recipes, this one calls for frozen vegetables instead of fresh and can be made the day before.
